How To Make Perfect Chai Tea
After spending 3 weeks in India earlier this year I fell in love with chai tea. It is sweet and aromatic and perfect for any time of the day. This is my take on how to make perfect chai tea.
Ingredients
- Long leaf loose tea - 5 tablespoons (Good blend)
- Water - 5 cups
- Milk - 1 cup (can use soy)
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon
- Cardamons - 2 (bashed and bruised )
- Cinnamon stick - 1
- Peppercorns - 2
- Sugar - 6 teaspoons
Instructions
- Add the water, milk and all ingredients except tea to a saucepan and boil.
- Once boiled turn down to a simmer and add the tea leaves. It is important not to boil the tea leaves as the taste will be bitter.
- Let simmer for at least 5 minutes stirring so that it doesn't burn.
- Pour tea through a strainer, making sure no loose leaves or spices go through.
- Depending on taste you may want more sugar, Indian chai is quite sweet.
- Pour into 4 mugs and enjoy.
