Swedish Meatballs
Ingredients
- For the meatballs:
- Butter - 3 tbsp
- Onion - 1, very finely chopped
- Ground beef - 650g
- Ground pork - 650g
- Egg - 1
- Milk - 1/2 cup
- Water - 1/2 cup
- Breadcrumbs - 1/4 cup
- Salt and pepper
- For the sauce:
- Cream - 1 cup
- Beef stock - 1 cup
- White flour - 1 tbsp
- Butter - 2 tbsp
- Salt and pepper
- To serve:
- Cranberry sauce
- Fries or boiled potatoes
Instructions
- Fry the onion in the butter in a non-stick pan for 2-3 minutes until translucent.
- Mix all the meatball ingredients until it is an even consistency. Season to taste.
- Shape the mixture into relatively medium-sized round balls and transfer to a lightly floured cutting board.
- Fry the meatballs in a large skillet on a medium-high heat for 10-12 minutes.
- For the sauce, melt butter in pan, then add flour, whisk until golden brown and the flour has been cooked down. Add the beef stock and cream, stirring until it thickens to the desired consistency. Season well.
- Serve the meatballs with the sauce and cranberry sauce.
