5 Pasta Combinations for Weeknight Dinners
Pasta is one of the most versatile ingredients in the kitchen. The delicious, hearty meal is the simplest and quickest way to satisfy our bellies after a long day. But what happens when you’ve run out of ideas and are sick of your regular tomato and basil spaghetti? Here’s some classic and simple pasta combinations that will keep your carb fix full of excitement.
Green Beans + Basil Pesto + Parmesan + Spaghetti
It might look a little green, but this cheesy and effortless combination works like a charm. Steam your green beans and toss them in with the pesto and fettucini, adding the Parmesan when it is all heated through and toss for 2 more minutes. Don’t forget a generous lashing of olive oil and season well!
Thyme + Mushroom + Cream + Fettuccine
Fettucini is a great match for a creamy pasta. Cook the sliced mushrooms in oil until soft and moist, add the thyme and a little cream and cook for another 5 minutes on a medium heat. Toss in some cooked fettuccini and voila!
Burnt Butter + Sage + Pumpkin + Pine Nuts + Agnolotti
If you have a little pumpkin leftover from a roast dinner, why not pop some cubes in with your pasta? Start with the butter in the pan on a medium high heat. Watch the butter carefully until it starts to turn brown and become fragrant, then reduce the heat and add the sage, pumpkin and pinenuts. Add any cooked parcel pasta, agnolotti, ravioli, tortellini, and coat with the burnt butter sage sauce.
Eggplant + Basil + Feta + Farfelle
Toss some baked eggplant in with some fresh basil leaves, feta, farfalle, a load of olive oil, season well and top with crumbled feta.
Salmon + Peas + Lemon + Dill + Tagliatelle
Cook a fillet of salmon and allow to rest. Add some blanched peas to an oiled pan with some cooked tagliatelle pasta, squeeze in the juice of a lemon, add some dill tops and olive oil, season well then flake the salmon into the pasta and stir through.
