Salt and Pepper Squid The Kids Will Love!
Ingredients
- Squid - 600g, cleaned
- Vegetable oil - 1 1/2 cups
- Plain flour - 50g
- Salt and black pepper - to taste
- Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
- Chinese five spice - 1 tsp
- To serve:
- Side salad
Instructions
- Pat the squid dry with some paper towel.
- Score the squid tube lightly with a sharp knife, then slice into rounds.
- Heat the vegetable oil on a high heat in a large wok until it begins to bubble.
- While the oil is heating, combine the flour, salt, black pepper, five spice, and chilli powder on a large plate. Toss the squid lightly in the flour mix.
- Turn the heat on the oil down slightly, add the squid with a slotted spoon, batches at a time and cook until the squid turns golden yellow and curls. Do not overcook the squid, as it will continue to cook while out of the oil.
- Place the cooked squid onto a plate with a paper towel to soak up excess oil.
- Serve immediately with aioli, lemon wedges and a side salad.
